According to Have I Been Pwned, in 2019 the B2B marketing leads database service LimeLeads suffered a data breach caused by an exposed, unsecured Elasticsearch server. The company has since shut down. The incident was reported by ZDNet, which noted that tens of millions of records were put up for sale online.
The breach exposed corporate contact data including 17.8 million unique email addresses, phone numbers, employer names, job titles, and geographic locations such as state, city, and postcode.
The exposed records primarily consist of business professionals whose contact information had been aggregated by LimeLeads for B2B marketing purposes. Anyone whose work contact details were held in the LimeLeads database may be affected.
